ARTIST’S PROFILE
Renato Fancellu was born in 1953 in Sassari, Sardinia. Curator, Antoinette
Sinclair, first encountered his work in 2003 when a number of Oisín Gallery’s
artists were invited to participate in the Sardinia-Ireland Arts Festival
launched by the ambassador of Ireland in Italy, Mr. John F. Cogan. Since then,
Renato has regularly featured in Oisín Gallery group-exhibitions & events.
An artist of international repute, Renato has exhibited extensively
throughout Europe during his twenty-year career. Works have been exhibited at
the Pénélope Association in Paris; Gallery Forum in Rome; and the Maison de the
Cultures in Paris. Together with The Tree of Words - an installation of trees in
central Sassari; Sarajevo, a group exhibition dedicated to the tragedies of the
war; Dead White, an exhibition protesting against the release of industrial
chemicals over Sardinia; and The History of Sheep and Other Animals - an
exhibition commenting on the roles of both science and religion in today’s
world; with particular reference to Dolly, the genetically engineered sheep. He
was also invited to exhibit at the Italian Biennial in 1997 and in the
Contemporary Art of Florence touring exhibition.
