ARTIST’S PROFILE
After graduating in 1994 with a Bachelor of Honours Degree in Fine Art, Simon
Taylor exhibited in many group and solo exhibitions throughout the UK. He has
had works purchased by many private collectors and had images used for a variety
of publications worldwide. Using various mediums, including photography and
painting, the work is part of a continuing project started in 1993 based around
ideas of perception; questioning the validity and source of received visual
information. His painting process is complex. Working from photographs taken
from life and film stills, he digitally manipulates the image and reproduces
using acrylic and spray brush.
Exhibitions include Ligne Roset, Manchester in August 2006; Summer Event
Exhibition, Oisin Gallery, Dublin in June 2006; Memory Stills, Lowry Hotel,
Manchester in June 2006, New Trends in Painting Since 2000, LCB Depot, Leicester
in April 2006. Other projects include paintings used in Vincent 2, screened in
late 2006 on Granada Television; Photographer in Residence at Royds Hall High
School in October 1998. Publications include the British Journal of Photography;
Time Out magazine; A review of Manchester City Art Gallery Exhibition for The
Big Issue; The Guardian Gallery Guide.
